Thunder [#13]

Clarence stood up slightly disoriented, as he often felt. He woke up from a sudden dampened sound in the distance. The sound of thunder. A heavy rumble in the dark. The coming of something bad. He looked at his clock, it was 2:25AM. Outside, pitch black. He felt scared, cold, and re-wrapped his feet in his blanket. Nice and snug. Still cold, still scared. “What was that,” he wondered. He lay with his eyes open for a while and then fell asleep again. Suddenly he woke up again, by a flickering of light coming from outside his door. It looked to be moving. Shivering shadows cast slowly across the room. He looked at his door and it looked like something was indeed approaching. An unspeakable faceless dark entity nearing through the open gap. He strengthened the grip on his blanket, lowered his head, tightened his shoulders and held his breath. He didn’t know what to expect. He couldn’t think straight. In the corner of his eye he saw his alarm, it was 2:31AM now. Still dark, still cold. Clarence just stared at the door. Suddenly a smell of such horrible nature got up to his nose. It’s smelled worse than anything he had ever smelled. He clenched his eyes in disgust and gagged silently by the imagination of what possible origins this could have. Was it the smell of death? The smell of a dead animal? A hole to another dimension? Another world? Rotten food? The door was pushed open gently, the flickering source made itself known: a candle in the hands of Clarence’s dad. “Sorry for the noise, son, must have eaten something pretty bad, haha. Anyway, get some sleep kid,” he said. Clarence was lost for words. That rumbling…
